Solera Sustainable Energies Company, in concert with the International Civil Aviation Organization, has now commissioned a 113 kW Solar Car Port at Kingston’s Norman Manley Airport. Solera was responsible for the turn key execution of the project including full project management, design, engineering and installation. The primary use of the solar power is to provide energy for the auxiliary power unit which provides preconditioned air for the jet ways and the planes while stationery at the gate. The solar carport also provides shade for cars while parked below. This pilot project, which is the first of its kind to offer zero Co2 emissions, is expected to provide a model for all ICAO states and, in particular, small island developing States.
